Mobile physiotherapist

Home physiotherapy across Melbourne's north and inner east

A Head2Toe physiotherapist comes to your home, assesses how you move in the rooms you actually use, and builds a plan that fits your house, your routine and your goals.

Strength and mobility programs

Simple, progressive exercises using a chair, a wall, a step and your own body weight, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to store.

Balance and falls prevention

We look at how you stand, turn and walk at home, then work on the parts that wobble. See our falls prevention program for the full picture.

Vestibular rehabilitation

Treatment for dizziness and vertigo that comes from the inner ear, done at home where symptoms are easiest to reproduce and manage safely.

Recovery after surgery

Rehab for new hips, knees and shoulders in the weeks after you leave hospital, following your surgeon's plan.

Gait and walking

Help walking further, safer and with less effort, including advice on walking sticks, frames and other aids.

Pain and stiffness

Hands-on treatment and movement for sore backs, necks, hips and knees that make getting around the house hard.

Why physiotherapy at home works

Clinics are built around clinic equipment. Homes are built around you. When a physiotherapist sees how you get out of your own chair, climb your own back step and move around your own kitchen, the assessment is more accurate and the plan is more useful. Exercises are set up in the room where you will actually do them, and problems like a loose rug or a low couch get noticed and solved.

Home visits suit people who find a clinic trip hard or unsafe. That includes older adults, people recovering from surgery, people living with a disability, and anyone whose pain or fatigue makes travel the hardest part of the day.

What a home physiotherapy visit looks like

Before the first visit we call to confirm the time, who will be there and what you want help with. If someone else is arranging the visit on your behalf, we are happy to speak with them.

On the day your physiotherapist arrives with everything needed for the session. The first visit covers your story, your goals, a physical assessment and a look at the areas of the house that matter, such as the bathroom, bedroom and front steps. You get a clear explanation of what we found and what we recommend, in plain language.

Between visits you have a short written program and a way to contact us with questions. We adjust the plan as you progress.

What we treat at home

Head2Toe physiotherapists treat the same conditions at home as in the clinic, with the equipment and techniques adapted for a living room. The most common reasons people ask us to visit are listed above. Others include arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke recovery, breathlessness that limits activity, and general deconditioning after a long illness or hospital stay. Deconditioning simply means losing strength and fitness from being less active, and it responds well to a steady program.

What we bring

A portable treatment table where it is needed, resistance bands, small weights, a blood pressure cuff, and the assessment tools we use for balance and walking. Clinic-only equipment stays at the clinic. We design your program around things you already own.

Your physiotherapist comes from a Head2Toe clinic

Head2Toe Home is the home-visit arm of the Head2Toe group, which runs clinics in Moonee Ponds, Brunswick and Kew East. The physiotherapist who visits you is part of that team, so you get the same standard of care, the same clinical records and the option of a clinic appointment later if that becomes easier for you.

How visits are funded

Home physiotherapy can be paid for privately, or through the NDIS, a home care package, DVA or a Medicare care plan where you are eligible. Our NDIS and home care package pages explain how each one works, and our FAQ covers fees and Medicare. If you are unsure, send an enquiry and we will talk it through with you before anything is booked.

Common questions

How long is a home physiotherapy visit?

The first visit is usually longer because it includes a full assessment and a look around your home. Follow-up visits are shorter and focus on treatment and your program. We confirm the length when we book.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book a private visit without seeing a GP first. A referral or care plan is only needed if your visits are funded through a scheme that asks for one, such as a Medicare care plan or a home care package.

Can a family member sit in?

Yes, and we encourage it. Having a son, daughter or carer in the room helps everyone understand the plan and the exercises.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothes and the shoes you normally wear around the house and outside. We will want to see you walk in them.
