Frequently asked questions
Fees, funding and what to expect from a home visit
Straight answers to the questions we hear most. If yours is not here, send an enquiry and we will answer it by phone.
Fees and payment
How much does a home visit cost?
Home visit fees depend on the service and the length of the visit, and we confirm the fee with you by phone before anything is booked. There are no hidden travel charges on top of the quoted fee for suburbs we list.
How do I pay?
Privately funded visits are paid at the time of the visit by card, or by invoice where that is arranged in advance. Funded visits are invoiced to your plan manager, package provider or scheme.
Can I use private health insurance?
Many health funds pay a rebate on physiotherapy and podiatry under extras cover, including for home visits. We give you a receipt with the item numbers your fund needs. Check your level of cover with your fund.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for as much notice as possible if a visit needs to change, because a clinician has set aside travel time. We explain the policy when you book.
Medicare, NDIS and other funding
Does Medicare cover home physiotherapy or podiatry?
Medicare can contribute to allied health visits through a Chronic Disease Management plan, sometimes called a care plan or team care arrangement, which your GP prepares for people with a long-term condition. It covers a set number of allied health visits each calendar year, with a rebate on each. Ask your GP whether you are eligible, and send us an enquiry to confirm how it applies to home visits.
Can I use my NDIS plan?
Yes, for self-managed and plan-managed participants. Physiotherapy and podiatry usually sit under Improved Daily Living in the Capacity Building budget. Our NDIS page explains how we work with participants, plan managers and support coordinators.
Can I use my home care package?
In most cases yes. Allied health visits are a recognised use of government-funded aged care at home when they support your care plan. We invoice your provider directly. See our home care packages page.
Do you accept DVA cards?
Please ask when you enquire. We will confirm the arrangements for Department of Veterans' Affairs clients, including any referral your GP needs to provide, before the first visit.
What about WorkCover or TAC?
These schemes can fund physiotherapy for accepted claims. Tell us your claim details when you enquire and we will confirm what is possible for a home visit.
What to expect
What happens after I send an enquiry?
A member of the Head2Toe team calls you back. We ask a few questions about the visit, check your funding and match a physiotherapist or podiatrist from your nearest clinic. Then we confirm a time.
How long does a visit take?
The first visit is longer because it includes a full assessment. Follow-up visits are shorter. We confirm the expected length when we book so you can plan your day.
Who will come to my home?
A registered physiotherapist or podiatrist from one of our clinics in Moonee Ponds, Brunswick or Kew East. We tell you their name before the visit. Our clinicians carry identification.
Do I need to prepare anything?
A clear space to move in, the shoes you usually wear, any hospital paperwork or care plans, and a list of your medications. If someone else helps with your care, it is useful to have them there for the first visit.
Can a family member or carer be present?
Yes, and we encourage it. We can also, with your agreement, keep a family member informed between visits.
What equipment do you bring?
Everything needed for the visit. A portable table where it is useful, resistance bands and small weights, sterile podiatry instruments, and the tools we use to assess balance and walking. Clinic-only equipment stays at the clinic.
Where and when
Which suburbs do you visit?
We visit homes across Melbourne's north and inner east, around our clinics. The suburbs we visit page has the full list. If yours is not listed, ask, as we are adding areas as the service grows.
Do you visit aged care facilities or retirement villages?
Yes. We can visit residents in retirement villages and some aged care facilities. Tell us where when you enquire so we can check arrangements with the facility.
What days and hours do you visit?
Visits run on weekdays during business hours. Tell us your preferences when you enquire and we will do our best to match them.
Do you see children at home?
Children are seen at our clinics rather than at home. For paediatric physiotherapy or podiatry, please contact a Head2Toe clinic directly.
